A touch of Summer in the heart of Winter

Hello dear friends !

Here are a few still life images I created this Summer who, I hope, will remind you that Spring isn’t so far away.

Creating images with flowers and trying to find new ways to capture these beauties is always a joy.

Renewing my creativity and trying new things with still life images is  always a goal, along with improving and refining my composition skills and post-processing techniques.  Lately I was inspired by the wonderful art of  Ukraine photographer Татьяна Скороход.  Her images are shot against dark backgrounds with superb lighting.  I really like the play of light and shadows in her stunning images.  You can find her profile on 1x by clicking here.  I also really like Tarek Art on 500 px, a photographer from Cairo, Egypt.  You can visit his profile by clicking here.  I did, just once, this kind of image using a dark background, it was 3 years ago when I was new to photography and one of my first attempts at still life.   Here’s the photo.

I will explore this style more in-depth, I hope I’ll be able to come up with some beautiful images and share them here.

Currently I’m working on an animated gif, snow falling on a winter image, and it’s Oh so not easy,  but fun to try.

Wishing you all a wonderful week-end !

Little hummingbird

Hello dear friends 🙂

#plum tree #prunier #plum flowers # fleurs de prunier

I was not very active on my blog these past three months and didn’t visit yours as I’m used to, but I’m back and happy to share with you my latest photos and visiting your blogs again to see what you’ve been up to.

After such a harsh winter it was pure joy to see all the little flower buds blooming everywhere and hear the cheerful bird songs filling the air.  Migrating birds were back and a hummingbird had the habit of resting on the same branch in a little tree in my yard.  He spent a lot of time there watching the feeder.  He was startled each time I would press the shutter.  I don’t do bird photography much but I’m glad I could get close enough to this hummingbird and create these images.

This past month I’ve been creating new still life images.  Many months went by since I’ve done them and I’m glad I have new images I’ll share with you soon.

We are well into Summer now.  I’m dreaming of swimming in a lake, laying on a hammock and watching the clouds passing by, campfire marshmallows, picnics and long walks on rural roads, reading under a tree… And so much more !

I wish you all a wonderful Summer 🙂

Flower photography – Summer 2013

Hi everybody   🙂

#peonies, #pivoines, #flowers, #fleurs, #still life, #natures mortes

Each time a flower blooms in my garden I am like a child receiving a Christmas gift.  I am focused on this one flower that has magically opened its petals and it never ceases to amaze me just how beautiful flowers are.  But flowers do not exist only for their nectar or for us to marvel at their grace and beauty. They have another important purpose and message.  A gift for us humans.

Flowers are among us to ease our journey

#peonies, #pivoines, #pink peonies, #pivoines roses

To lighten our hearts in the midst of storms in our lives

#wildflowers, #fleurs sauvages, #flowers, #fleurs,

To remind us to turn toward the sun’s rays instead of reaching in the darkness of our sorrows

#wheat, #blé

To open our hearts to heal

#wildflowers, #fleurs sauvages

To be happy

#flowers, #fleurs, #rudbeckia, #rudbeckie

To smile and laugh

#rudbeckia, #rudbeckie, #flowers, #fleurs,

To keep our child’s heart

#échinacée, #echinacea, #flowers, #fleurs,

And to love

At this time of year, as the flowers begin to wither, I always feel a little pinch in the heart to see them go…

Another of my favourite photographers, especially in flower photography, is Kathleen Clemons.  Her photos are a real delight for the eyes.  She mostly uses the Lensbaby for her flower shots, a lens I am thinking of buying for flower photography.  The Lensbaby offers different lenses and optics which produces creative effects of selective focus with a sweet spot of sharp focus that I really love in flower photography.  Click here if you would like to know more about the Lensbaby.    Kathleen has made a beautiful slide show  of her flower photos on YouTube, click here to view it, it’s really beautiful.

Autumn colours are almost at their peak here, so I’ll try to take a few hours this week to capture these wonderful colours.

Have a beautiful week !

Bleu Lavande

Hello everybody !

Recently I went to a favourite place of mine, a place I hold dear and where I always love to return to.  At this place they grow a plant, a wonderful plant, one of my very favourite.  It is a plant of many virtues and uses and one that exhale an exquisite perfume.  If I had to escape to a remote island and could only bring a few plants with me, you can be sure that lavender would be on my list !

Cultivated in Fitch Bay in the Eastern townships on Appelgrove’s hillside, Bleu Lavande has a surface of 260 acres out of which 42 of them are exploited to produce lavender.  They extract essential oil from about 100,000 plants which serves to elaborate about forty products.  When I go I always return home with a few products  from their wonderful boutique, like bar soaps, linen water and body cream.  This year I also bought two more plants to add to the three others I have.  And, of course, I can’t go to Bleu Lavande without taking a few photos 🙂

If you are interested in growing lavender here are a few tips :

– Choose a cultivar that is hardy to your region.

– Plant lavender in a very poor soil and never add compost or other fertilizer.

– Plant lavender on a mound to ensure a good drainage.

– In winter, If you don’t have a good cover of snow, add a fair amount of straw to protect the plant      from frost.

– Lavender only loves lavender and it won’t do as good with other plants nearby.

Click here to have more tips from Bleu Lavande website.

In my garden, I am awaiting, with great eagerness, the blooming of my gladiolus, with which I hope to make some beautiful photos.   And next week I’ll have my family visiting, hopefully I’ll be able to do some portrait sessions !

Wishing you all a great week and a beautiful end of Summer.

One of my favourite flowers : Lilacs

#Lilac flowers, #Lilac

It may not be the prettiest, elegant and majestic tree if compared to oak trees or maple trees, but common lilacs have qualities many other trees lack :  They produce beautifully abundant flowers which exhume the most exquisite of perfumes.  Each year a bouquet graces my home, filling the air with its exuberant fragrance.  Flowers are so therapeutic.  Looking at them and caring for them makes me feel lighter and happier.  And a few bouquets of lilacs is a wonderful way to add a note of cheerfulness in my home.

Climbing honeysuckle is in bloom at the moment, and in the coming days irises will reveal their beautiful blooms, and shortly after, peonies and roses will make their grand entrance in the garden.  What a delight for the eyes it will be !

Happy Summer dear friends !

Spring little flowers

Hello dear friends !

They are everywhere around us.  They have awakened from a long winter and are now turning and reaching towards the warmth of the sun rays.  They delight us and charm us with their delicate forms and hues, and the profusion of their blooms.  What I like most about them is their daintiness, they’re such cute little flowers.  What a joy it is to look through the window in the morning and see these beauties swaying gently under the wind’s caress.  And when the bird songs echoing from far away are joining their voices in harmony with those of my garden, then I can say I have lived a moment suspended in time, a magical moment…
